Health

If you know that a Lodge member or their dependant is struggling with a health problem you should remind them that help may be available from the central Masonic Charities.

Medical grants for treatment or surgery are available in cases where there is a waiting list in excess of 12 weeks for assistance from the NHS (8 weeks for cancer or cardiac issues). Grants may also be available for dental treatment, mobility aids, and home adaptations.

Small grants are also available for initial consultations and assessments by an occupational therapist or specialist practitioner.

The MSF eligibility calculator is a useful tool to help individuals assess if they are be eligible for support.

Counselling

As an Almoner you are of course able to offer emotional support, but there may be times when you don't have the expertise to help. Freemasons and family members over the age of 16 can access the MSF Counselling Careline, which is a confidential free help-line operated by trained counsellors. Up to six telephone or face-to-face sessions with a trained counsellor can also be arranged in cases where counselling is deemed appropriate. Contact Freemasonry Cares for more information about the service.
